Danny Ferry ain't playing.
New Atlanta Hawks general manager, Danny Ferry, came to this team with a sole purpose, to shed salary and clean the mess that former Hawks gm, Rick Sund, made. Ferry agreed to trade the five time all star Joe Johnson to the New Jersey Nets for Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro, Jordan Williams & Deshawn Stevenson (Nets will also acquire a lottery protected first round pick via Houston)
Getting Joe Johnson seems like a move done in order to get Deron Williams a partner so he wouldn't leave the team, but Billy King said they went for Johnson regardless of what Williams does. Assuming Williams stays with the team, they will now have a core of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace & Brook Lopez, the Brooklyn Nets are already way ahead than last year's New Jersey Nets.
This trade is a win win for both teams, Nets get their all star and didn't lose the talented player Marshon Brooks in the deal and the Hawks are free of Johnson albatross contract. Johnson is set to get paid as much as 19.8 million this season and the contract is going to be as high as 24.9 million in the 2013-2014 season.
Ferry wasn't done dealing.
Marc Stein of ESPN reported the Hawks traded Marvin Williams to Utah for Devin Harris. With the move, the Hawks rid themselves of even more salary and acquire Harris which is an expiring contract.
